How educational leaders can use blogs

Educational leaders can use a blog to notify parents and the community on the latest happenings at the school.  Information on the blog can range from lists of test dates, upcoming concerts or assemblies, and the current breakfast/lunch menu to school accountability data from the latest state standardized test.  Teachers could also have the ability to create posts…perhaps to remind parents of the requirements for their big school project or give shout-outs to students who have done something "shout worthy" (only first names to ensure student privacy!).  I believe a personalized school blog would get more traffic than the outdated school website.

  1. Charlene--I love the idea of using the blog as a classroom tool to give shout-outs to students and to help send out reminders, etc. What a great way to communicate!

  2. I agree that a blog would definitely get more traffic than the school website. I, too, love the idea of allowing teachers access to post reminders, announcements, and shout outs!

  3. I like the fact that they are accessible anywhere, you could update your blog in line at the grocery store!

  4. Charlene, I liked your idea of teachers using blogs for projects and for shout-outs. I read online about a school that had blogs set up on each school's website within a school district. I think something like that would entail someone specifically having the job of overseeing the blog. I haven't grasped the fact of how teachers or administrators would have the time to manage the blog site so that it could be professional in quality.

  5. I am currently posting updates on the calendar on my teacher web page. Hardly any of my students check this page because it is hard to find on the district website. I bet more of them would check a blog because of its convenience. I agree with Keri that I like that you can access and update your blog anywhere!

  6. I think blogging is a great way to communicate with parents. Blogs are usually quicker to read and easier to access than the school website.
